The Medical Faculty of the University of Basel and the University Hospital Basel are seeking to fill the position of Professor of Hematology, which is linked to the role of Chief Physician of the Department of Hematology. The Hematology Department at the University Hospital Basel is the largest center for allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) in Switzerland and holds a leading position nationally and internationally in clinical care, particularly in HCT and cellular therapies. The department is recognized for excellence in teaching and research, with a comprehensive research scope covering epidemiological, translational, and basic scientific studies.
Tasks
- Responsible for the medical, economic, organizational, and academic management of the clinic.
- Elevate the national and international profile of hematology at the University of Basel through clinical expertise and research background.
- Ensure delivery and continuous enhancement of exemplary clinical services.
- Foster collaboration between hematological diagnostics, the Basel Blood Donation Center, oncology, and other related clinical departments.
- Guarantee advanced training for resident and senior physicians in accordance with the standards of the Swiss Institute for Continuing Medical Education (SIWF).
- Engage actively in academic research and teaching to inspire students and cultivate the next generation of academic professionals.
- Establish an attractive and dynamic working environment for academic and clinical specialists through participative and goal-driven leadership.
- Lead a hematology research group and contribute to international study groups.
- Cultivate a supportive atmosphere for successful, team-based translational research.
Requirements
- Board accreditation as a specialist physician in hematology or an equivalent qualification.
- Broad clinical and practical experience across all areas of hematology and stem cell transplantation, including both allogeneic and autologous transplantation.
- Demonstrated successful research in clinical, translational, or experimental domains.
- Substantial leadership experience in an academic environment with organizational skills and economic thinking.
- Expertise, leadership capabilities, communication skills, and high interpersonal competence to cultivate trust and acceptance among colleagues.
- Ability to foster an engaging working environment, inspire innovative thinking and action, and support the professional development of team members.
- Proficiency in German or a commitment to acquiring it within a reasonable timeframe.
