Research at Google takes place every day across many embedded teams, reaching users through services and products such as Search, Maps, Google Assistant, Google Translate, Google Cloud, and infrastructure for computing, storage, and networking. Projects utilize the latest technologies to push the boundaries of what is possible. Research-focused engineering interns are embedded throughout the company, contributing to large-scale tests and deploying promising ideas quickly and broadly. Ideas may originate from internal projects or collaborations with partner universities and technical institutes worldwide. Interns work on real-world problems including artificial intelligence, data mining, natural language processing, hardware and software performance analysis, improving compilers for mobile platforms, and core search. Google Research addresses challenges that define today's and tomorrow's technology, conducting fundamental research and influencing product development. Research teams have the opportunity to impact technology used by billions of people and regularly share research and tools through academic publications, open source projects, and application to Google products.
Tasks
- Participate in research to develop solutions for real-world, large-scale problems.
- Research, conceive, and develop software applications to extend and improve on Google's product offering.
- Contribute to a wide variety of projects utilizing natural language processing, artificial intelligence, data compression, machine learning, and search technologies.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a PhD degree in Computer Science or a related technical field in the EMEA region, and in your penultimate or final year of education.
- Experience in one or more research areas: Natural Language Understanding/Processing, Computer Vision, LLMs, Algorithmic Foundations of Optimization, Data Mining, Machine Intelligence, AI/ML Algorithms, Deep Learning or Image Processing, multimodal, multilingual and reinforcement learning.
- Experience and proficiency in one or more general purpose programming languages: Java, C++, Python, or Go.
- Experience with research from previous internships, full-time industry experience, personal projects, lab work, or published papers (being listed as author).
- Preferred: Experience as a researcher, including internships, full-time, or at a lab.
- Preferred: Experience contributing to research communities or efforts, including publishing papers in conferences or journals.
- Preferred: Ability to design and execute on research agendas.
- Ability to complete a 13-17 week full-time internship in Switzerland, France or Germany starting in either May, June or July 2027.
Benefits
- Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
- France: €66,000 (EUR) + 0% bonus target
- Denmark: kr.670,000 (DKK) + 0% bonus target
