The ETH AI Center promotes trustworthy, accessible, and inclusive AI systems by bringing together interdisciplinary research teams across all departments. The ETH AI Center Fellowship program is Europe’s premier PhD program focused on advancing interdisciplinary AI research, either within AI foundations or between AI foundations and application areas. Fellows work with two excellent PIs from different fields who carry equal weights in supervision.

Tasks

  • Conduct research that impacts the future of AI within the doctoral fellowship program.
  • Work on your own proposed project.
  • Continuously exchange with other teams and professorships.
  • Participate in faculty retreats, symposia, and summits.

Requirements

  • Completion or expected completion of a Master’s degree in computer science, machine learning, statistics, physics, engineering, applied mathematics, or other relevant fields at least 3 months before the beginning of the fellowship program (latest by June 2027).
  • Excellent track record.
  • Meet the general admission requirements for a doctorate at ETH Zurich.
  • English proficiency sufficient to discuss topics with colleagues and report findings in writing.
  • Interest in working with an interdisciplinary team to find solutions together.

  • Occupation normally runs for three years, with possible extension for a maximum of one year to complete the doctoral thesis (decision by the ETH AI Center Doctoral Selection Committee, without additional interviews).
