The Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research WSL is part of the ETH Domain, with approximately 600 people working on the sustainable use and protection of the environment and the handling of natural hazards. We are a leading research institution dedicated to advancing environmental science and dendroecology. Our multidisciplinary team conducts innovative research to address pressing environmental challenges. By November 2026, or upon agreement, we are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic intern for a 6-month position to contribute to two exciting projects focused on adapting European forests to climate change.

Tasks

  • Contribute to two projects exploring complementary approaches for adapting European forests to climate change.
  • Process samples and conduct laboratory work.
  • Process tree-ring cores from different species and locations to create tree-ring chronologies.
  • Assist in the preparation and chemical treatment of samples for isotope analyses.
  • Keep precise and accurate records of all procedures.
  • Carry out analyses of the results.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in or recently completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in environmental science, forestry, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in forest ecology, dendrochronology, isotope analysis, or environmental research.
